Building a School Timetable in Schooliee
Building a School Timetable in Schooliee
Building a school timetable is one of the most detailed jobs in school administration. Teacher availability, subject requirements, room bookings and break times all have to fit together, and one error can disrupt the week for teachers and students. Schooliee's timetable module keeps the timetable in one place, so changes are made once and seen by everyone who uses it.
Prepare the inputs first
- List each class section, its subjects and the number of periods per week.
- Note teacher availability, including the limits of part-time staff.
- Note specialist rooms, such as the computer lab or science lab, and when they are free.
- Decide break times and any prayer or religious study periods.
Build the timetable
Enter the periods, then assign teachers, subjects and rooms against them. Once the draft is ready, review it yourself before you share it. Check for teachers or rooms booked twice, and for teachers with long runs of back-to-back periods.
Keep it current
When a teacher's period changes or a room becomes unavailable, update the timetable and review the classes it affects. At the start of a new session, review the timetable for the new term rather than assuming last term's version still fits.
